Coordinate measuring machines (CMM) are employed to accurately measure, amongst other things, the dimensions or geometrical characteristics of objects when absolute accuracy is paramount. As such, it is essential that such sensitive equipment be effectively isolated from any source of vibration.
With each passing year coordinate measuring machines become increasingly accurate (and, therefore, increasingly sensitive to vibration), particular with the latest developments in non-contact scanning such as high-speed laser single-point triangulation, laser-line scanning and white-light scanning, which transfer “point-cloud data” to CAD software to create a working 3D model of the object under scrutiny. Any vibration could compromise the quality of this data.
