News Internation Printing Press IsolationCMS Vibration Solutions recommended Regupol RAV300 to isolate newspaper printing press foundations at News International’s new printing facility in Broxbourne. As one of the world’s largest and newest print works, anti-vibration treatment to the foundations was required to prevent structural vibration and to prolong the life of the printing presses. To achieve this, 700 linear metres of Regupol RAV300 was installed around the foundation’s perimeter. Foundation Isolation: RAV400

Case Study for Vibration Isolation Case StudyRegupol RAV400 was specified as a foundation isolation solution at Abu Dhabi Cement Mills – a turnkey grinding plant in the United Arab Emirates. The Cement Mills was constructed for a capacity of 115 tonnes/h (grinding of OPC with a fineness of 3300 Blaine). It also has to produce cement of an even higher fineness (up to 4800 Blaine) or slag of a very fine grain size (4400 Blaine). Cinema Floor Vibration Isolation Bridgewater Centre Case StudyThe Kinetics Roll-out Isolation Material (RIM-C) floating concrete floor system was installed by Patton Fit-Out to structurally isolate nine cinema blocks at the new Bridgewater Centre in Arklow, Ireland. The RIM-C systems were designed to prevent unwanted structural noise and flanking sound transmission. As the Bridgewater Centre cinema complex is situated above a flagship Dunnes store, the nine cinema blocks not only needed to be isolated from each other, but also from the rest of the retail complex. Printing Press Foundation Isolation: ISOSheet

Foundation Isolation at Broughton Printers Case StudyBroughton Printers has used CMS ISOSheet to isolate the foundations of a KBA automated reel logistics system against external vibration. PAs part of a £14 million expansion plan at its Preston site, Broughton Printers, a subsidiary of Express Newspapers and the Northern Shell Group of Companies, invested in a new KBA automated reel logistics system. To prevent external vibration and shock from reducing the accuracy of the automated reels, and stop machine-induced energy causing structural noise within the facility offices, the two foundations of the reel system had to be isolated. Railway Arch Structural Isolation: RIM-C

Structural Isolation Clapham Junction Case StudyTo help take pressure off local GP surgeries, a new walk-in health centre was required within a high footfall area close to Clapham Junction. As a densely populated area, the only available space for the development was within five railway arches located directly beneath the railway track beds. To ensure the building was fit for purpose, main contractor, Osborne required a bespoke anti-vibration solution that would deliver superior performance at very low frequencies. Moreover, planning conditions demanded that the vibrations generated from the passing trains be isolated and the area effectively damp proofed to achieve long-lasting sound abatement. Bowling Alley Isolation: RIM-C Floating Floor

Floating Floors Isolation at Eagle MeadowCMS Vibration Solutions has used the Kinetics RIM-C floating floor system to isolate a first floor bowling alley floor at the Eagles Meadow mixed use development, preventing vibrations travelling out of the structure and into retail units below. Combining flagship retail space with a bowling alley, restaurants and bars, the Eagles Meadow complex in Wrexham required careful planning to accommodate all of the amenities under one roof, whilst maximising the availability of retail space. As such, developer Wilson Bowden positioned the 24-lane bowling alley on the first floor, directly above the retail units. Bar/Restaurant Vibration Isolation: Regufoam 400

Residential Floating Floor Isolation Case StudyGranville Gardens is a contemporary residential development of 51 spacious units situated in Ealing developed by Linden Homes. As the residential apartments were being constructed directly above a new bar/restaurant, they had to be treated with a very low frequency solution to ensure the building was fit for purpose and prevent vibrations from travelling through the structure and emanating as nuisance noise. As a result, acoustic consultants, Alan Saunders Associates, specified a floating floor to attenuate frequencies of 25Hz with 95% isolation efficiency. Appartment Block Foundation Isolation Case StudyCMS Vibration Solutions recommended a combination of Regupol RAV300 and CMS ISOSheet to isolate the foundations of two apartment blocks developed by McGarrell Reilly Homes, preventing the transmission of vibrations from nearby railway lines into the building structure. The first phase of the McGarrell Reilly Homes development in Cambridge comprised two apartment blocks, set over three storeys. As the apartments are located next to a railway boundary, vibration control treatments had to be planned into the building design, to prevent ground-borne vibrations generated by the trains operating nearby from entering the building structure. Printing Press Foundation Isolation Case StudyTo reduce the impact of vibration and noise at a new North Wales Newspapers production site in Deeside, a range of Regupol RAV materials were used to isolate the foundation of a KBA Commander Press line. When developing its new £16 million production site in Deeside, North Wales Newspapers had to ensure that provision was made for the vibrations which would be generated by an active KBA Commander Press. Foundation Isolation Case Study for One Southhampton RowCMS Vibration Solutions used a combination of Regupol RAV and Regufoam materials to isolate the foundations at One Southampton Row, preventing current and future vibrations from causing structural noise within the building structure. One Southampton Row, London WC2, is a seven-storey office and retail scheme constructed by Bovis Lend Lease (BLL) for developer Grandsoft Ltd. As the development is above two existing tube lines, with CrossRail due to run underneath in the future, vibration control had to be planned in to the building design. Commissioned by BLL as specialist anti-vibration contractors, CMS Vibration Solutions specified, supplied and installed a combination of anti-vibration systems to meet the project criteria. Vibration Isolation at Paddington Central Case StudyRegupol RAV100 was selected to isolate the concrete foundations of an eight-metre high podium deck from ground borne vibrations at Paddington Central – a new business, retail and residential district in central London. To prevent train generated ground borne vibrations from entering into the main building structure, the acoustic consultant specified that the podium deck be isolated with a high performing anti-vibration material. Floating Floor for A Private Residence Case StudyCMS Vibration Solutions has specified and installed the Kinetics Spring Lift Slab Floor Isolation System, Model LSM, at a new build residential extension in Kent. It formed part of a highly specialised and bespoke architectural design to prevent low level sound from causing severe disturbance to a long term sufferer of low frequency hearing. Low frequency hearing, or ‘The Hum’, is a rare medical condition which causes sufferers to hear sounds which are not normally audible to humans. Project Lateral is an exclusive apartment development in London’s Belgravia. Comprising two swimming pools in the basement area of the building, it was necessary to isolate the pool bases and water delivery pipes in order to prevent vibrations from travelling into the building structure and disturbing residents. Bridge Vibration Isolation Case StudyRegupol PUR elastomeric material was installed to reduce road induced structural vibrations on a concrete walkway and cycleway at Tay Road Bridge, Scotland. Tay Road Bridge is 2,250 metres long and spans the estuary of the River Tay between Dundee and Newport on Tay. It comprises dual carriageways of 6.7 metres in width with a three metre wide walkway and cycleway. Floating Floor At University College LondonCMS Vibration Solutions has delivered a bespoke floating floor isolation system for University College London, to prevent exercise activity in the free weights area of its third floor gym from causing excessive noise in the Bloomsbury theatre below. When a new weight training area was introduced to the gym at University College London, the force of free weights impacting the floor resulted in structure-borne noise. Foundation Isolation for Vibrating Block Machine Case StudyWyresdale Concrete Products installed a combination of Regufoam® materials to isolate the foundations of a new Hess Vibrating Block machine, preventing vibrations generated by the manufacture of paving blocks from disturbing neighbouring residents. Total foundation isolation and a natural frequency of 7Hz were specified as the minimum criteria for controlling the vibrations that would be generated by the Hess Vibrating Block machine. Working with manufacturers Hess and the engineering consultants, CMS Vibrations evaluated the key specification variables, including a final 125 tonne static load that would be imposed by the foundation block/machine and 100kn vertical/160kn horizontal dynamic loadings generated from manufacturing forces.
